An ongoing fallacy is that only US citizens are allowed to upload and start selling their photos online through stock photography sites.
Obviously this is untrue, yet it is important to note that the majority of the purchasers of stock photography are from the US due mostly to the volume of Internet users as well as the high demand from web designers, advertisers and marketers for images of items that are unavailable in the States.
Subject matter is all so important and a good way to see just how many quality photos are already available on the Internet is to do a “Google Search” on the main keyword and then scan the images. You will find a whole range of images in various sizes, but you may notice that the quality is often poor. These photos will not sell of course, but you will soon see the difference in the quality of the images found as well as the various sizing measures used on the uploaded images.
The distinction between poor quality versus high quality is not that large of a leap however simple mistakes must be corrected prior to actually submitting your image for sale.
You ideally want to submit photos that have not been edited with photo editing programs such as Photoshop. While these programs are great for resizing and cropping you will lose quality each time you open and work with the photo. The goal, therefore, is to take the perfect photo without the need for any editing.
So once again anybody anywhere can begin selling photos online as long as they have a digital camera, a computer and an Internet connection. It is only a question of quality and interesting subject matter, and after that you only have to upload the photos to the stock photography sites and then just wait to watch the money rolling in.
